It is easy to tell someone to “follow your passion” “Do what you love”, of course, anyone would love to do so if they actually have a CLEAR VISION about it and that’s when the question arises WHY?? Why am I unable to find that one thing I am passionate about?

There might be many reasons why haven’t you found your passion yet. First can be you know about it, but too afraid to take the first step towards it or you are too distracted or maybe you have options but you can’t choose one to continue with. Most of the time because of these reasons people follow an opposite path which eventually leads them to something in which they are not actually interested in and when that happens they remain disappointed and unsatisfied.

To avoid this thing from happening, you first need to stop OBSESSING about finding your passion. You need to understand that you have to build it, it is actually a discovery process. Developing a passion for something is a gradual thing; you love it with your whole heart and even start living for it. To make this easy for yourself you must journalize your views. Ask yourself the following questions first:-

  1. What drives you?

If we break it down to the simplest level “Drive” means “To strive vigorously towards a goal or objective”. It is all about what motivates you to do a certain thing wholeheartedly and with determination. There might be a lot of things you like to do but there would always be that one thing which you love more than the others. Contemplate and pour out your thoughts about it.

  1. What truly matters to you?

People don’t follow anything without a certain motive or reason so ask yourself where actually is your motivation derived from? Jot it down if it’s Ambition, money, independence to do things on your terms, job security, status, etc.

  1. What did you always want to do?

To simply answer this, ask your heart what were you always crazy about when you were a kid, that thing you could not get out of your head. What that thing is you can read and talk about for hours. There must be something for which you are willing to sacrifice even your food and sleep. Write it down and also mention why you feel about it in that way.

  1. What would you do if money wasn’t the issue?

This might be one of the most important question to ask yourself. Nowadays most people associate success with how much money you make in your profession. Success cannot be totally defined by how much money you are making rather it’s more about the satisfaction and happiness you receive while doing it. Making big cheques is indeed a big deal but at the end of the day the feeling of fulfillment and accomplishment is what matters the most.

  1. What inspires you and why?

Inspiration is a feeling of enthusiasm you get from your surroundings such as your parents, your friends, your teachers, famous personalities, etc. that gives you new and creative ideas. For example- A young girl aspires to be an army officer because she has a defense background and she always saw her father in the uniform. The respect, pride, and hard work associated with this field inspired her to walk on the same path. Write about the people, things, or places that had a deep impact on you, which moved you, ignited a spark in you, and why? Comprehending these things will give your vision clarity.

Now answer these questions honestly and write them down in your journal and once you figure out and find your passion just remember it’s going to be a hard path, ask yourself:-

  • Are you willing to make sacrifices for it?
  • Are you willing to face the ugliness?
  • Are you willing to stay patient?
  • Are you willing to fight for it?

If your answer is no, go back to the drawing board. If your answer is yes, congratulations!! Your life is going to be a masterpiece.
