Language is what we use to describe and create our experiences and meanings to ourselves and to others. The language we use has a huge impact on our unconscious responses in our environment. Let us see the application of this concept when we use the word ‘TRY’.

How often in the course of a day do we say “I will try”??
How often in the course of a day do we hear “I will try”???
When is it that we say “I will try”?
Why is it that we say “I will try”??

Is it the outcome of our subconscious belief that we may not even have the inclination to do it? Perhaps we think we do not possess the skill to do it. Probably we do not want to commit to something of which we are not sure of doing well. Perhaps we do not want to say ‘No’ as it may appear as defiance or confrontational. We possibly do not want to be seen as someone who does not ‘know’ it.

Actually, as soon as the word ‘try’ is uttered, its implication is that something will either be not done or can’t be done.

We remember being told from our childhood to ‘give our best’ even before any task is attempted. What is that we remember feeling?? It must be difficult!!! And the level of motivation goes down.

‘Try’ pre-supposes that the task to be done is difficult and hence the feeling to give up on the exercise is faster and quicker. Sometimes we assume on our own that a particular task is going to be hard and consequently we communicate by saying ‘try it'. If we re-word our sentence without the word ‘try’, motivation will be higher and the outcome will be desirable.

There is an inbuilt failure in the word ‘try’. So just ‘do’ it!!!!
