“I just started a new chapter but I forgot what I have learned in the previous chapter.” – Do you also get zoned out while studying or grasping? Or do you forget the most important keywords of a certain lesson while sitting in an exam? Don’t worry; you are on the right track. Forgetting is normal but forgetting more than usual needs your attention. There is no maths as such but some simple ways to get back to learning effectively. Let’s discuss them.

  • Read, read it again!

Start reading as much as possible. Make it a habit. The more you’ll read, the more you’ll explore. Start from your textbook. Read it, if it doesn’t connect you, read it again and this time read louder. Your voice itself becomes the medium of reciprocating learning. Of course, this is a home-based activity but researchers have said that reading out loud adds up multiple chances of retaining easily and retaining more.

  • Create visuals

Let’s assume you are reading a textbook with a complicated plot/storyline. Of course, it’ll be hard to grasp in one go but keep on reading it and form visuals in your conscience after every act or part. Creating visuals boosts our chances of learning fast as practical learning is always effective than theoretical learning. For instance, we solve numerous physics problems, some of them are with figures and some are not. So in this case, we create figures as per the given information to make it easy for understanding. The same concepts go with every situation, every subject.

  • Learn and make others learn

The lesson you learned in your class today, try to make it learn to your classmate or friend or your granny (granny always listens to us no matter what). It is proven that 50-50 learning is effective in learning smart. This would be a kind of revision to you and a lesson to whoever you are teaching.

  • Group discussions

Try to participate more and more in group discussions. Whatever material you have read, discuss it in your group so that the retaining power gets increased. Put forth your views and listen to others. Their knowledge can add up to your knowledge as well.

  • Start writing

Make it a practice to write anything and everything. Writing is the primary way to retain more. Whichever lesson you have learned, jot down keywords, or write a summary about it. Your last minute revision could be made easy with these notes. Being a digitally equipped generation, generally, we prefer to type it down rather than write it down. For retaining more, this practice needs to be changed. Our mind tracks down our physically identified action like writing rather than tapping which is an unidentified action.

  • One at a time

We know multitasking is a priority these days but try to avoid it. Concentrate on one topic/subject/situation at a time. Sometimes multitasking leads us to more chaos. Hence to avoid chaos, be focused on one thing at a time.

  • Eat healthily

A healthy diet is one of the key ways of improving memory. Vital vitamins and minerals come from a healthy diet. Junk food only adds up to more calories. Energy should be retained first to retain information. Eat berries and green leafy vegetables to be active and healthy.

  • Sound sleep

Another key element. Everything needs rest and proper maintenance whether it is a machine or a being. 6-7 hours of sleep is mandatory for processing a healthy mind. Don’t work continuously, take regular breaks, and refreshments. Your mind needs timely cleanup and backup at the same time.

  • Why boring?

If the chapter ‘atoms and molecule’ are boring, make it interesting. Visuals always help in creative and innovative learning. Connect with the topic personally and apply it to yourself. This way the topic will always be under your skin no matter what.

  • Mistakes are good

Mistakes are the proof of your learning. Don’t get afraid of them instead of embracing them. Assume you have mistakenly used ‘their’ instead of ‘there’ in a sentence and you or your teacher points that out, don’t lose your conscious instead accept it. Next time whenever you’ll use these words, you’ll surely recall your mistake and prevent a particular mistake this time.

Learning is a lifelong process. Abundant information and knowledge are in front of you. You’ll learn at every step of life. The concern is how’ll get hold of all knowledge. The above mentioned are the easiest ways to retain more and retain easily at the same time.
